While reading sutras it maybe useful to know which turning of the wheel of dharma is being expounded by the Buddha. The location is a hint which turning of the wheel it is. The beginning of each sutra always gives the location where the buddha taught. Three turnings of the wheel of dharma: The FIRST turning is traditionally said to have taken place at DEER PARK in Sarnath near Varanasi in northern India near Nepal. The SECOND turning is said to have taken place at VULTURE PEAK MOUNTAIN in Rajagriha, in Bihar, India. The THIRD turning was also delivered to an audience of bodhisattvas in SHRAVASTI and other Indian locations such as Kusinagara. In general the Buddha taught: First turning - four noble truths and tripitaka Second turning - emptiness and prajnaparamita Third turning - Buddha nature and tathagatagarbha Source:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Turnings_of_the_Wheel_of_Dharma#Third_Turning
