Lachung Rinpoche is building a branch Monastery of Chorten Gonpa on the site of the previous Lachung Rinpoche's retreat place. The previous Lachung Rinpoche had been very helpful to Dodrupchen Rinpoche when he first came to Sikkim. Dodrupchen Rinpoche, in turn, recognized and trained the current Lachung Rinpoche at Chorten Gonpa. In order to gain practical experience in running a monastery, Dodrupchen RInpoche has made Lachung Rinpoche the acting Dorje Lobpon (Abbot) of Chorten Gonpa for a year. This is an indication of Dodrupchen Rinpoche's confidence in Lachung Rinpoche.
Lachung Rinpoche has already built a new Retreat House and Temple. He is currently raising money to build a Shedra (School). In Sikkim, construction must take place in the winter as the summer monsoon rains in the hilly terrain make it impossible during the summer.
